Namely? It was "cognitive dissonance" <b>which led me to my epiphany that it was all pareidolia.</b> The only cognitive dissonance I have on this issue now, is when I attempt to find something that someone else thinks is there, but where I plainly see it's just more of the same old same old.

Rich, yes I grasp it very well so no worries there. And perhaps I drone on a little too long., So the point I am trying to make can get a little buried. But you hit it where I did not. Yes, yes and yes...you have made clear my point in one sentence where I failed.

It <i>was</i> your cognitive dissonance which drove you to a conclusive epiphany. Again, this IS how this syndrome compels. It takes...indeed <i>drives</i> the experiencer to a point of embracing a decision to one way or the other....a sort of "democracy of the soul". And viola, the dissonance subsides. e.g. when a person who for their entire life has an agnostic philosophy to wards religion or belief, experiences the dissonance of "not knowing" until it all becomes too much and folds. Within no time at all, that person now becomes a "born again Christian" (or alike) and from that time onward...there's no looking back!

Your epiphany was the culmination of much time experiencing the dissonance of your observations. The introduction of pareidolia set you free from this as it gave you the parachute you yearned for.

And now, I can almost guarantee you of one thing...there will never be ANY anomaly in ANY of the Mars images which will convince you otherwise. If that were the case, it would start all over again.

No...pareidolia for you, is here to stay and I think this is a good thing even though I am sad to say it.

Like Rich I always look as well, hoping that this one will be different. So far it hasn't, but I keep hoping.

So you see Malcolm there actually are some anomalies that will capture us. (Bouncing off of your Agnostic/Christian analogy, I do not reject the idea of gods, I just reject the specific Christian example of a god. As well as all the others I've seen ****so far****.)

In almost exactly the same sense, we do not reject the possibility of Evidence on Mars. We just haven't see it yet. Most of the time I can see what someone talks about, and yawn. Sometimes they have to actually circle it. Then I say "ah ha, now I see it". And yawn.

And occasionally I never see it. So the yawn is not needed.

Then couple Larry's "ah ha, now I see it" with later finding out that what you see is slightly different than what the founder saw, and you start to get the makings of the <i>Epiphany Into The Pareidolic State.</i> Not to mention, once you start finding pareidolic (modern) images, it gets easier and easier to find them, which leads to another component of the epiphany:

Why should that be? Are there <b>really </b>faces everywhere on Mars?? That are all right-side up?? Does that seem likely?

Ok, so maybe the faces I see are pareidolia, and the ones Neil or Malcolm or other's saw are real artwork, but on the other hand, maybe, just maybe, they're all pareidolia.
