If the artificiality debate were ever to be taken seriously by competent scientists specializing in their respective fields of expertise, much could be learned by studying the imagery we now have. This has been true ever since the first images appeared of the first face on Mars, as expressed in this short article by Arthur C Clarke. It is even more true today.

Awhile back, I tried to demonstrate artificiality (in an informal way) of the Cydonia face, (see the topic thread "NASA I'm Ready for my Close-up"), by showing the various proposed marks of construction of the face as seen in the high resolution image, I've done the same thing in this thread with other faces imaged by MRO. The current face we are examining is also noteworthy in this respect, it shows similar striations depicting "hair," apparently chiseled-out or carved-out borders, ridges, and secondary features. But again, it is going to require the input of experts, when the time comes, to demonstrate how these features on these artifacts which could be many millions of years old, are unlikely to have been formed by natural processes.
Here are some close-ups of the Viking Profile and the Emblem Face positioned above its "forehead." [Neil DeRosa]

Are these last images supposed to depict something?

Please refer to above edited post in which images are now labeled. The posts above that (esp. Nov. 21) have the context images for the close-ups.

If you remove the background, what you have left is similar to a studio photo or painting, and there is little doubt you are looking at an artistic rendition of a human-like face; like the one seen perhaps by the passing astronaut or tourist of olden times. Thanks to these new excellent specimens found by Trinket, and to a lesser extent some found by this writer, we have the beginnings of a good record of high-definition faces imaged by MRO to further the artificiality hypothesis for Mars. Some details were supplied last time, here's the bigger picture. [Neil DeRosa]

Has anyone found an analogue of Mt. Pelee on Mars? Mount Pelee, in Martinique, extruded a plug of pumice of about 3000 metres. It would be interesting to know if the same thing happens on Mars. The plug should be even taller and one would expect it to collapse like a fallen tree down the side of the volcano cone.
