My pareidolia knows no bounds.

That's kind of the way I see it as well.

Within certain limits, it costs very little to be gracious.

In a free world, I have the right to be offended by anything you say and you have the right to laugh at me if I mention it. But having the right to do something does not mean you must do it.
In fact, I do believe, if TVF looked into this condition more thoroughly, he would never have allowed it to be used here as it has.

Tom was way too big a person to worry about one person's opinion. He encouraged all different viewpoints, just as long as it stayed civil and nobody was attacking the messenger.

Malcolm, did you know I was banned from this site once? Roughly 2 or 3 months prior to the start of this thread. Neil and I were really starting to disagree on everything, and it got pretty crazy at times. I never had a message censored or deleted by Tom, but Neil used to all the time, and that really got his goat. So, it got pretty bad, and at one time we were just flat-out arguing on one of these threads.

I suppose to a certain extent it made good theater, and they put up with it a little more than they might have, but sooner or later they shut it down, and I was banned.

I took a couple of months off to think about it, and then contacted Tom. I apologized and explained how it escalated and asked him if I could come back. He talked it over with his team and said yes. That's when I asked if I could start this thread, and he was very receptive to the idea. He thought it was exactly the right thing to do, at the right time.

This topic is not here to "refute" the AOH. But rather to act as a counterpoint to keep front and center the other side of the argument.

No one should take it personally. If you have something, don't let this bother you.

To put it bluntly:

This is my opinion, my hypothesis. There is no assumption on my part that I am right and everyone else is wrong, even if I personally think I am right and everyone else is wrong.

A fascinating insight into your history here. I get the sense that something must have been going on with you and Neil that caused your gravitation toward finding an explanation to your dissonance on this subject. And, with Neil representing the center point in the dissonance, I should imagine that it was quite the release to jump into this pareidolia journey. Believe it or not, I fully understand this and I empathize with this arena.

As you may have gathered in recent posts, I have been experiencing some frustration with this subject and I have been trying my best bring a new awareness here. The frustration is because I know this pareidolia option is ultimately a great waste of time as one day you may find out that you and others have been going up a dead end road. Still, this is your choice and truthfully, I do see this is working to allow comfort in the dissonance which you experienced back with the arguments with Neil. I hope you guys are now getting on ok. Btw, what has become of Neil, I feel quite sure he would be very interested to get some updates on his work?

And, please accept my apology for my facetious comment regarding Mrs. Derosa, I meant no disrespect.

These images show me there is something going on here besides randomness. Does anyone else see this imagery as "devilish"?

[/quote]

Sorry Fred, I missed this quote you posted earlier. Yes you are right in picking up on this "devilish" impression. You may be starting to catch the subtleties of the Alien presence here. If you begin to see more of this "type" of imagery, you are not seeing things so to speak. Point it out and let me know if and when this may occur.

This is a new experience here and you may have the technique starting to develop...This can be a big experience and just so you know, there are others that experience this also...ok?

Malcolm, I never had any dissonance. Not then nor now. Remember, as I told you it was not my messages that were being censored.

I simply arrived at the logical conclusion that it was all pareidolia.

And don't worry I didn't take offense about your comment about my wife.

Rich, as any psychologist will explain to you, we ALL experience cognitive dissonance, it is a natural part of being human and we can expect to experience this almost on a daily occurrence at on level or another. I am told that when people experience dissonance, and especially to the degree where family members are concerned coupled with a massive subject matter (like possible ET life or the existence of God etc) it has the tendency to catapult the experiencer deep "into it" either one way or another. Not to dissimilar from the personal euphoria your were describing earlier regarding your interpretation of Pareidolia. Evidently, this is quite a common situation with no long term negative effects. Primarily because the experiencer dose not know they have moved away from the dissonance the subject was creating.

For sure you were experiencing some level of dissonance by the sound of just how traumatic the relationship with Neil was developing into as you explained earlier.

Rich, let me make one thing clear to you, there was a time when I did not KNOW that extra terrestrial life existed. Like all others and possibly yourself too, I believed it "could" exist and thought very positively about that. I explored the available evidence and I found nothing that tipped the scales. All the while, I felt a sense of discomfort about the whole issue - not much, but definitely a level of the cognitive dissonance - a sort of "being in between".

So....

Inside the space of just one evening closely reviewing some image evidence of Hebes Chasma, I spotted something that took my breath away and brought me to my knees in tears. The more I looked, the more I validated the image. The more I tried to explain it away, the more I knew that I could not. This is that very special moment in time that is like no other before and will ever be again. This is when you know and the pendulum arcs in a new direction.

I am a technical designer and I work in a 3D environment constantly in my profession. I have a very specialized skill set. The one thing I can tell you is; that pure design has one specific property built into its very nature and is undeniable, DESIGN HAS INTENT. And when you begin to understand this principle, you will start to see Mars in an entirely different light, if you spend the time with the images "close up" that is.

I realized then, that what I was looking at, took a certain mind to see it, one who has been trained to see great depth of field and one that needed to be practiced upon, in this dimension almost daily.

The experience was very painful my friend I kid you not. In the space of that one evening, my whole life changed. From then on, I have been able to identify so much and have honed these skills down to a tee especially in the mode of 3D anaglph.

The next evening, I made a decision to introduced my wife to the same image and curled into a fetus position in the seat next to her as she starred at the computer monitor with a little help from m. I watched her face turn from a beautiful pinkish tone to gothic white as the tears began to roll down her face. She is also an artist who has great depth of vision.

From that evening onward, we now see everything very much more clearly and our world has become a very different place for the both of us.

A word of caution here, before you think about jumping on this post with explanations of pareidolia,...please think twice, ok?.

Thank you.

No, actually I don't.

But I do sympathize with your plight. I know you are intent on projecting this affliction on to the rest of us, due to the difficulty you are having with it, but I assure you there is no dissonance in my view of the so-called "Martian Art".

I don't want to hurt your feelings, but in my opinion the whole thing is ludicrous. I've looked at hundreds upon hundreds of image strips from the MOC to the HiRise and there is nothing there but vastness and the planetary processes that got it to this point.

Like my wife says... Oh Jeez, please give me a break! Martian Art?? I don't think so.
