Your god is too wimpy if you think he/she/it has no place in science. My GOD created all that is, therefore He has a place in all things. One can not say to the Almighty - "You don't belong here." (Actually, you can but do you think he will listen...)
"Unworthy1,
Even Jesus said it's about your actions above and beyond everything else. If you live a good life, follow the rules set forth, and whatnot, then why does it matter if your theory is right or not?"
Please show me where Jesus said that. Being good and following rules does not get one into heaven, or keep one out of hell. Tell me- how many rules do you have to break before you blow it? How good do you have to be to "get in"?
"I say let the science show what it will."
That's what I say too. Unfortunately, there is much that is left to interpretation and there are far too many "scientists" that interpret from a naturalistic bias. A few have even admitted this. I do not fear what the facts will show, and the facts have never damaged the creationist view. Truth is truth. The more facts come to light, the stronger the evidence for a Creator. (Notice the increasing popularity of the "Intelligent Design" movement...)
"If it supports the bible, so be it, and if it doesn't, so be that as well."
If it supports the Bible, so be it. If it contradicts the Bible, it's time to come up with a different theory/belief, because the Bible has never been and never will be wrong.
""God" doesn't need anyone to stand up for "him". If "god" exists, nothing Mr. Van Flandern theorizes can ever damage that. Why not let it play out and just see where things go?"
You are right, God does not "need" anyone to stand up for Him, but Jesus does expect His followers to stand up for truth and tell others about Him. I can't just sit back and let people go to hell because they believe lies without having the chance to know the truth.
"Life is too short to assume we know all the answers. Even as sweeping as Meta Model is, there's far more it doesn't specifically cover than what it does."
I don't know all the answers, but I can spot a bunch of hooey when I see it.
"Why would you even WANT to go to a heaven occupied by a god who would damn people for believing in a scientific theory?"
God does not damn people for believing or not believing in scientific theories. God damns people for rejecting His Son, Jesus the Christ, Whom He sent into the world to save the world through the shedding of His blood and death on the cross. People who believe stuff like this website promotes are far more apt to reject Jesus because the two worldviews are incompatible. You can't believe both rationally.
"If we're wrong for our beliefs, so be it, but the observational evidence, the calculations, and even the underlying philosophy of most of the theories presented on this board are strong enough to merit serious discussion. Discussion requires an open mind though. Otherwise it's just seperate parties talking AT each other, not TO each other."
Being "Open minded" means that one considers ALL views including mine. However, there does not seem to be much open-mindedness here, wouldn't you say?

Well, I must apologize to the members of this board. I should have realized this would spark a heated debate. Unworthy1, if you want to continue this discussion in private, I'd gladly discuss this via some other medium. I've studied the bible quite extensively and was even considering going to seminary for a time. I think we could have a healthy debate if you're up for it. At any rate, I will gladly address all the non-science points you have made in private, but I don't want this discussion to deviate from science anymore than it has.

Dangus (and anyone else that has responded to some post and later regretted doing so),
Been there, done that.
Because this message board focuses on a particular non-mainstream scientific theory, and tolerates the discussion of just about any other theory, we have our share of scientifically illiterate posters. And our share of posters with hidden agendas. In general the best way to handle these is to ignore them. Or, if you are sure about your facts, politely correct a mistake.
It takes a while to learn how and when to not respond. You'll get there.

(BTW - never post while under the influence. It will wait 'til the next morning.)

Dangus,
Since I know that God is responsible for creating all things, including the universe and the laws by which it operates, I don't see God and science being mutually exclusive, but I will be happy to take up the remainder of the debate privately. How may I reach you? Not sure what protocol is about posting e-mail addresses on a message board...
