Interesting stuff-its amazing what you can see in pictures. Do you have the dimensions of this hole in the ground? It looks to me like it might be the most interesting detail yet discovered on Mars and might contain almost all of Mars atmosphere if it is as deep as 7,000 meters or so. Some small areas at the bottom of the hole look like water lakes to me- that shows you how my mind functions.

I also think the "face" is artificial but it is obvious from a great height - even when the resolution was quite poor. Here, I think you have "cherry picked" a portrait out of landscaping that is not different from landscaping around it. One has to "strain" very hard to see your "picture".
The original "face" appears on a surrounding landscape that is completely flat and jumps out at the viewer. It is immediately apparent. Other faces shown by Van Flandern were "perfect - photographic" - no distortion of the features. The original "face" shows damage from its left side but all other "artificial" structures in that area also show damage from the left side. As if descending asteroids had hit them all at a low angle.
You might have a real picture but there is no obvious "message" by it. The odds are against this being artificial.
